Located in West City District of Beijing, Beijing Zoo was built on the former site of imperial manor in the Ming Dynasty and got the present name in 1955.

Covering a total area of 50,000 square meters, the zoo is the largest one in China as to its size and animal varieties. Over 600 types of rare animal species have been stayed here from both home and abroad. Hippo, elephant, rhinoceros, giraffe, tiger, lion, polar bear, etc. are expected when entering the zoo.

Besides, Beijing Aquarium built in 1999 in the northern corner of the zoo is also a must see where lively aquatic and animal displays are performed. Last but not the least, the cute giant panda, dubbed “the national treasure” and cherished by the people worldwide, attracts a lot of tourists every day.
