Hong Kong International Medical Clinic

This joint-venture clinic offers a range of high-standard medical services including general medicine, OB/GYN, pediatrics, ENT, dermatology, dentistry, ophthalmology and physi-cal exams for immigration. The pharmacy stocks West-ern and TCM medicine. House and hotel visits available. The 24-hour helpline provides support in English, Chinese and Japanese. Other languages available on request. Direct billing with 20 international insurance companies and 31 Japanese insurance companies. Basic consultation (including registration) fee is RMB 400. An additional RMB 300 if a specialist is called in.

Amcare Women’s and Children’s Hospital

This hospital near the Lido provides services in obstetrics, gynecology, pediatrics, childhood development, family planning, ultrasound and radiology. Also offers out-call, evening outpatient and car services. Houses 36 home-style pri-vate suites, several operation and delivery rooms, rec-reation center and gym. 18 doctors on staff, 7 full-time. No registration fee.

Consultation fee depends on level of doctor: RMB 100 (physicians), 200 (specialists), 300 (professors). Doctors do not speak fluent English, but an accompanying Portuguese nurse provides language support. New Century International Children’s Hospital

This joint-venture institution affiliated with the Beijing Children’s Hospital features an English-speaking medi-cal staff (some from the U.S. and Europe), 15-minute minimum clinic visits, playgrounds, and daily entertain-ment with clowns and musicians. Also has pediatric eye care and dental programs. Consultation fee depends on child’s age and condition (on average RMB 800), pay-able by cash or credit card. Deductible and co-insurance waived for members of the Panda Club, available for patients with insurance companies that have a direct billing relationship.

Peking Union Medical College Hospital

This state-run hospital has a reputable foreigners’ wing (50-bed ca-pacity) with departments including ENT, internal medi-cine, pediatrics, surgery, dental, ophthalmology and OBGYN. Most doctors are trained overseas and speak good English. Services and medicine are much cheaper than in private clinics, but expect longer waiting times. The birthing unit is considered to be the best among Beijing’s Chinese hospitals and is popular among expats.

TCM specialists in massage and acupuncture available daily. Blood is supplied from an in-house bank stocked with blood donated by volunteers and hospital staff members. The cost of registration is RMB 100, 200, or 300, depending on the status of the doctor: physician, assistant professor or university professor. Cash or credit card, with direct billing available with some insurance companies. Private rooms cost RMB 800-1,500 per day. The only hospital in Beijing accredited as an international-standard medical provider by the ICI (Joint Commission International). Focuses on providing comprehensive and integrated quality medical services for both expatriate and local communities. Staffed by a team of over 60 in-ternationally trained and certified physicians, surgeons and dentists, and supported by a multilingual team of nurses, technicians and support staff. Telephone trans-lation service in over 40 additional languages. 24-hour emergency room and ICU are staffed by international emergency specialists.
Clinics include pediatrics, OB/ GYN, dental, ophthalmology, family counseling, ENT, physiotherapy, TCM, chiropractics and dermatology. The first choice for many expatriates giving birth in China and referral choice for other hospitals without in-house birthing units. Well-stocked pharmacy and on-site independent blood bank. Offers lectures on physical and mental health, first aid training for ayis and drivers, prenatal classes and more. Consultations cost around RMB 900, emergency service around RMB 1,500.
